Year Up Gives Young Professionals a Leg Up on Career Success

YEAR UP AND ALL OF ITS GREATNESS
Let’s start with the basics…so what is Year Up? In short, Year Up is a fast-paced, hands-on, yearlong career boot camp that provides access and opportunity to young adults. Thoroughly explained, Year Up is a training program, comparable to an accelerated business program, that develops underprivileged young adults (ages 18-24) with business acumen across various disciplines and prepares them to go from classroom to corporate within a single year. Other amazing benefits of this program are...
Students receive a weekly stipend! They are paid to attend school
All students are given the opportunity to intern for 6 months at a Fortune 500 company
Courses are transferable and eligible for college credit
Each student is paired with a mentor who is an experienced professional in the field
Year Up's model is very simple, they...
“CONNECT YOUNG ADULTS WHO NEED OPPORTUNITY WITH COMPANIES WHO NEED THEIR TALENT"
I will admit, had I not been contacted by a representative of Year Up, I may have never known about this great organization. I was even more surprised to learn that Year Up received national exposure during this 60 Minutes episode (which I totally missed). Upon my initial visit to their 85 Broad Street location, I noticed that this campus was nestled in the heart of the New York City Financial District aka Wall St., which is great inspiration for all of those who attend. These young adults are surrounded by suits, powerful people and big decision-makers. Way to go Year Up!
WHAT’S YEAR UP TO NOW
Changing mindsets, instilling values and creating leaders! On January 19, 2017, Employment Manager, Reinette Ross, reached out to me to inquire about my career focused workshops and asked me if I would be interested in providing a one-hour workshop at her Career Boot Camp. She expressed that she wanted to ensure that the graduating class was fully armed to interview confidently post-graduation. I gladly accepted the invitation and designed a customized ACE YOUR INTERVIEW Workshop for the 2017 Year Up New York City graduates. The workshop was fun and engaging; the students proved that they are ready to take on the world! The 2017 NYC Year Up class will be graduating on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center.
